Read about Max Verstappen’s incredible 7-win streak and Red Bull’s record-breaking dominance in Formula 1. As the teams head to Belgium’s iconic Spa Francorchamps, find out how they’ll cope with the fast track and challenging setup. Can McLaren challenge Red Bull? Will Ferrari’s strategy pay off? Discover all the thrilling action in the last race before the mid-season break
Max Verstappen made it 7 wins in a row and Red Bull broke the record for consecutive wins last time out in Hungary. The Red Bull dominance continues. The other teams on the grid have proven they can match Red Bull’s speed over one lap in qualifying, but the race pace of Red Bull and in particular Max Verstappen on a Sunday is still a problem no one seems to have an answer for. But it can be argued the most dominant figure is out of the last 22 races, Red Bull has won 21 of them and Max Verstappen has stood on the top podium 18 times.
As the teams travel to Belgium this weekend, it is a very different track to last weekend’s slow technical track. The Circuit de Spa Francorchamps is an iconic track which requires the teams to compromise their car set up with the first and third sectors of the track heavily reliant on top-end speed but the middle sector needing a lot more downforce. Finding the right setup will be made even more challenging with only one 1 hour practice session provided on Friday due to Belgium being the third sprint race weekend of the 2023 season. This track is also one of the fastest tracks on the F1 calendar.
So how are the teams going to fare in the last race before the mid-season break?
The Mclaren team are currently regarded as having the second fastest car on the grid and both cars should be high in the points again this weekend with Lando Norris going for a third straight podium (let’s just hope he doesn’t break any more trophies).
The track this weekend should suit the Ferrari team but they need to ensure they get the strategy right. They also need to ensure they are consistent with their race pace as both drivers tend to drop off the pace at times throughout recent races.
Mercedes are still struggling for pace at times particularly when carrying high fuel loads, however we could still see an exciting battle for a podium place between Mercedes and Mclaren.
The Aston Martin team has been out developed by the other teams and has now fallen back to the fifth fastest car on track. They will be likely to be challenged by Alpine and Williams at Spa as they struggle for straight-line speed.
Max Verstappen will be arriving at Spa as the strong favourite and after winning last year’s Belgian Grand Prix with such a dominant drive, he is expected once again to dominate all weekend.
