Race 1, No. 6, Bremerhaven

Bremerhaven, trained by Tony Gollan, really has caught my eye. Last time out at Ipswich, she just didn’t seem to gel with the heavy track conditions, yet she impressively managed to stay within a hair’s breadth of the winner. Now, returning to a dry surface, which she clearly prefers, I’m expecting her to shine. She’s fit, having raced several times this season, and I’ve got a feeling that Jimmy Orman, her jockey, will be looking to take advantage of that early on. There’s something about the way she’s been racing that suggests she’s ready to take that next step up.

Race 2, No. 5, Victoria Roc

Under the guidance of Brian Smith, is one to watch closely in her upcoming race. Her last performance at Ipswich was a bit of a heartbreaker for those that backed her; she was blocked for most of the race but showed a burst of speed once she found room, narrowly missing out on the win. She’s had some rest since then, and I believe this has her primed for a strong showing. With the step up to a mile, it suits her running style, and Boris Thornton, who knows how to get the best out of his mounts, will have her in a good spot from barrier 2.

Race 3, No. 6, Time To Testify

Shaun Dwyer’s Time To Testify has been in fantastic form lately, winning two of his last three starts. His last win at the Sunshine Coast was particularly impressive, where he just powered away from the field. He’s carrying a bit more weight this time, but it doesn’t look like it’ll slow him down. The race doesn’t have a lot of early speed, and I can see Michael Rodd taking advantage of this, getting Time To Testify into a great position early on. He’s a horse that just seems to be getting better with every run.

Race 5, No. 12, Ever So Clever

Ever So Clever, from the Tony Gollan stable, hasn’t found the winner’s circle yet, but I have a hunch that might change soon. Her run two starts back at Eagle Farm was more promising than the final placing suggests. She didn’t quite deliver last time, but I sense that was more about the day than her ability. With the stable’s track record of bringing out the best in their horses, I’m expecting a significant step up in performance. She’s a horse with potential, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see her make a strong statement in this race.
