You’ve got to keep an eye on The Lyricist in the opener. Carey Martin has this horse primed, and with Victoria Corver in the saddle, I’m expecting a top performance. This horse has shown some real spark over the 1100m, and I reckon it’s in with a solid shot. It’s got that edge, something you can feel rather than put into word.
Now, Bailee’s Pride, that’s a horse that’s caught my attention for the second race. Colin Haddon and Zephen Johnston-Porter are a formidable team, and I’ve noticed how well this horse has been doing lately. The 1300m distance should suit it down to the ground. I’m expecting Bailee’s Pride to really shine today, maybe even surprise a few.
For the fourth, my money’s on Talk Softly. This 5-year-old gelding is something special, aiming for a hat-trick after two impressive wins at this track and distance. Dropping 1kg from the last race but stepping up in class – it’s a challenge, but one I reckon it’s up for. There’s a fire in this gelding that makes it hard to overlook.
And finally, don’t overlook Acermetric in Race 7. David A Smith has got this one tuned up nicely, and Lucy F Fiore knows how to get the best out of it. It’s got the right blend of speed and stamina for the 1400m challenge. Acermetric has a presence, a real competitor’s air about it that says it’s not just there to participate but to dominate.
