This mare’s got a bit of a spark in her, doesn’t she? Gently Rolled has been coming up nicely, bagging a couple of wins in provincial BM 64 grade. She’s got this consistent streak about her, especially when she placed behind King Of Naples in higher company. And with James McDonald in the saddle, you know she’s got the right hands guiding her. She’s a Press Statement breed, and they’re known to handle all sorts of tracks – a solid pick for a bit of a flutter.
Now here’s a gelding with some serious chops. Last time out, he just missed the mark in a close one, but the smaller field in this race should really play to his strengths. He’s got that knack for handling pressure well, and in a race like this, that’s gold. If the track’s heavy, that’s the only worry, but he’s shaping up to be a real contender.
Here’s a horse that’s caught my eye. Caballus is coming back after a break, now under Bjorn Baker, and he’s looking sharp in the trials. There’s something about the way he’s been running – especially in soft ground – that tells me he’s ready to make a splash. Baker’s made some gear changes, and I reckon that’s going to make a world of difference. Keep an eye on this one.
This mare’s on a roll, gunning for a third straight win. Yankee Hussel has been really strong recently, especially in her last couple of races. She’s stepping up in grade, but she’s got this 5kg drop in weight, and for an on-speed mare like her, that’s huge. Plus, she’s a progeny of American Pharoah, so stamina is in her blood. I’m telling you, her early price is a steal.
