In the opening race, keep a keen eye on Time To Chat. This young filly, under the expert guidance of C & D Maher & Eustace, looks primed for a strong performance. She’s sporting blinkers for the first time, a move that often sharpens a horse’s focus. With Blake Shinn in the saddle, expect her to be right up there in the mix, especially given the wide draw of her main rival, Dragoon. Her fitness levels seem spot on for this mile challenge, making her my top pick for the race.
In the fifth race, I’m leaning towards Mr Trafficanti. Gavin Bedggood has done a fine job with this 5-year-old gelding. Blake Shinn’s riding style should suit him perfectly, especially if he can get him a bit closer from barrier five. Mr Trafficanti has shown he can hold his own in BM64 grade, and today’s conditions at Sandown seem right up his alley. Definitely a horse to watch.
Lastly, in Race 8, my value pick has to be Haaland. There’s a buzz around this horse, and rightly so, given his recent form and the way he’s been training. Sandown’s track conditions today could play right into his strengths. He’s a bit of a dark horse in this race, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him outperform expectations.
In the final race, Lang Park stands out as the one to beat. This lightly raced gelding has shown plenty of promise, and despite a narrow miss first up at Moonee Valley, I reckon he’s primed to take this one. With improved fitness and a favourable draw, he’s in a prime spot to claim his third win in just five starts.
