Lachie’s AFL Round 20 Preview: Geelong Cats v Fremantle Dockers | Betting Preview

28 July, 2023

Two 2022 Final Participants last season, with small big of history between two given recent history. Whilst yes the Cats are still a very good side after their 22′ Premiership, and yes they’re playing at maybe the home at the GHMBA fortress in Geelong, and yes the Dockers have had a very disappointing year, BUT the Dockers have won the last 2 matches between the two sides, with 1 of them being earlier in the year, and the other being actually at GHMBA just last season, in a very surprising but impressive victory. The Cats will have remembered this, and will be looking at not just teaching the Dockers a lesson, and giving them a reminder of who’s boss, Geelong need the win to ensure their spot in the 8 is not in a dangerous spot. I expect to the Cats to come out and win comfortbly, read below to see why and see my punting selection for the match.

Geelong Cats vs. Fremantle Dockers @ GMHBA Stadium – Saturday, 1:45 PM

The Geelong Cats are set to take on the Fremantle Dockers in what promises to be an exciting clash at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday. Both teams have had contrasting fortunes this season, and this match is crucial for their respective campaigns as they aim to secure their spots in the finals.

Cats in Great Form and Dominant at Home
The Geelong Cats currently sit in 8th place with a 9-1-8 record, but they have been in stellar form recently. With a string of impressive victories under their belt, they have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with. However, their home ground advantage at GMHBA Stadium is what makes them a real threat. The Cats have been utterly dominant in front of their home crowd, winning 12 of their last 13 games at the venue. Their ability to thrive in familiar surroundings gives them an edge in this encounter.

Dockers Struggling with Disappointing Performances:

On the other hand, the Fremantle Dockers find themselves in the 15th spot with a 7-11 record. Their recent form has been lackluster, having suffered four consecutive losses. What makes it even more concerning is that those defeats were not close contests; they were comfortably beaten or outright smashed in all of them. The Dockers’ confidence might be waning, and they will need to regroup quickly to stand a chance against the Cats.

Head-to-Head Battle:

Interestingly, despite the Cats’ dominance at GMHBA Stadium, the Dockers have managed to upset them in their recent encounters. They have won their past two meetings, including a memorable victory over the reigning premiers at GMHBA last year. Such successes could serve as motivation for the Cats to seek redemption and assert their dominance once more.

Motivation for the Cats:

The Cats have an additional incentive to secure a victory in this clash. With the finals within reach, they cannot afford to slip up at this crucial stage of the season. The return of star forward Gary Rohan will undoubtedly bolster their attacking prowess, adding another layer of threat to their already potent lineup.

Dockers Making Limited Changes:

While the Dockers welcome James Aish back into the side, they have made no significant changes to their lineup. It remains to be seen whether the familiar faces can produce a turnaround in their fortunes.

Prediction:

Considering the Cats’ stellar home record, recent form, and the return of key players, they enter this match as strong favorites. They will be determined to make amends for their previous losses against the Dockers and put on a commanding performance. The Cats are expected to dominate proceedings and secure a comfortable win as they push for a spot in the September action once again. I will be taking them to cover the -45.5 handicap line.
